People. I have a serious case of fall fever. It’s bad (or is it good? 😉 ). On Monday I drank my first pumpkin spice coffee of the year and my gasket almost burst! Pure joy here:
Since we bought our new home, I’ve been really looking forward to decorating according to the seasons. When I started imagining our fall-inspired home, I got a little nervous because our walls are mostly grays and blues – colors I don’t normally associate with fall decor.
To add to my concern, all of the beautiful fall-inspired homes I see on Pinterest have pale yellow, beige, or white walls. Of course, it fits perfectly with the fall theme. 🙄

It was time to do a little research on how I could do this naturally Bring in fall decor without having an inappropriate theme and making my house look like a color wheel.
After browsing Pinterest, I decided to stick to the following criteria for my fall decorating theme:
- Move forward vigorously Brown and gold tones to create a beautiful autumnal base
- Any “Lighter” colors will be in the form of foliageas the foliage provides a natural look despite its strong color
With that thought in mind, I headed to Hobby Lobby for a fall adventure! As I entered I was greeted with a sign from the autumn gods:
FALL DECOR: 40% OFF
Let’s start shopping!! At one point I felt a little overwhelmed by the contents of my shopping cart, but the friendly 40% discount gave me a reassuring pat on the back (I think we’ve all been there).
84 dollars later I was outside and saw everything in shades of red and orange. Autumn decoration hangover.
My decorating staples
Here are the things I used, um…everywhere.
- gold plates – Buy on Amazon
- Pine cone and acorn mixture – Buy on Amazon
- autumn leaves – Buy on Amazon
The centerpiece
The first thing I was excited to put together was the centerpiece for our dining room table. I bought all the faux foliage for about $3/each and the bucket was about $6. I noticed pre-made centerpieces in the store for $70-$80, but my total was only $25! Cha ching!
Buy the bucket / Buy the plate / Buy wheatgrass / Buy the foliage
The quatrefoil pumpkins
Because yYou know me and quatrefoil… 😀
I love this plate of fall decorations, but I think the whole table still looks a little empty… Maybe a table runner would help?
The kitchen island needed some fall love too…
And last but not least: what would autumn be without a few owls?
In total…
…I’m relieved that I was able to combine the fall theme with my cool-colored walls. Here’s what I learned:
- The Wooden furniture I already had a nice transition between my color theme and fall decor in my home
- Another great way to customize seasonal decor is through a common pattern (i.e. the quatrefoil)
- It’s hard to use too much Autumn leaves while decorating when I even ended up buying more to brighten up a few plates – don’t be afraid to eat leaves! 🙂
How do you bring fall into your home? Any staples? Let me know!
