Happy Christmas Eve, everyone! I hope you’ve had a wonderful christmas-tree-decorations/” title=”Deck the Halls with These 39 Stunning White Christmas Tree Decorations!”>holiday season so far and have all the gifts and recipes ready for the big day! We took advantage of the holiday season to make some fun crafts – last weekend we tried out our first gingerbread house and not to brag, it turned out CUTE (no pun intended).
Kudos to Andrew for the cactus and kudos to me for the gingerbread man coincidence. Thank you thank you!
Another fun craft I wanted to try were some DIY popsicle stick snowflakes I saw on Pinterest! I thought this would be a fun craft project for Andrew and I since it seemed pretty simple and boys usually like gluing sticks together. I’m happy to report that it wasn’t βPinterest failsβand they turned out pretty cute!!
Even though Christmas is almost over, these decorations are much more wintery than Christmas, so leave them up for a few more months! Winter just started this week, right? π

Optional Additional Materials: Sweet Husband. ?
Okay, okay, okay… Let’s start making some snowflakes!
Step 1: Spread newspaper on the floor.
…or wherever you have a lot of space – we have decorated under the tree! However, make sure you put the newspapers away, otherwise the glue gun may get dirty!
Step 2: Plan your flake
Before you start gluing, take a few minutes to design your snowflake. No two snowflakes are the same, but if you’re like me and can only think of one design take a look here on Pinterest for inspiration!
Get creative by cutting popsicle sticks into different sizes! For example, I cut some sticks in half and then glued them together in a V shape. PRO TIP β To get perfect right angles, follow the ads in the newspaper!
My snowflake had the pretty simple design on the left, then Andrew completely outshone me with his snowflake from the gods. Husbands! ? ?
Step 3: Glue!
Once you’ve planned your snowflake, start gluing it together with small beads of hot glue. Pay attention to how your popsicle sticks overlap, and try to keep each popsicle stick as “level” as possible – if it’s on the sticks at one end, make sure it’s on the sticks at the other end too lies!
Step 4: Spray paint the suction cups
Once the glue has dried on your snowflakes, take them outside to spray paint. We went traditional with white paint, but I’ve seen some pretty snowflakes with silver and even gold paint! You may need to apply a second coat after drying to ensure adequate coverage.
Step 5: Hang Them!
Find a nice open wall to hang your snowflakes. I chose the side of our stairs – the blank wall has been staring at me for months!
There are different ways to hang them. I decided to use Command Strips and hang the snowflakes directly on the hooks, but I have also seen ribbons attached to the snowflakes and then hung on hooks. It’s up to you!
This would be a super fun craft project for kids β just make sure they are careful with the glue gun!
I really enjoyed making these DIY popsicle stick snowflakes! Let me know if you try it!
Merry winter and happy Christmas Eve!
